I've a custon built machine, using Win7 Profession, 32 bit, 4GB RAM.
Am unable to open a .pps file. I've downloaded PPV 2007 from a website, after loading - I go to the folder where it's located click on it hit run and it's finished.

When I return to WLM, I click on the pps icon in the left pane next to the senders name and instead of the slide show a blue page appears with listings of "Pictures + Videos, Music and Movies. Under a grouping of pictures labelled Picture Libray there are pictures of flowers a bear and more flowers - nothing relating to what is in the pps file. (Several books say something about a Media Center Slide Show, but I guess I'm getting real slow).

i've open Start, Programs and I don't se MS PowerPointViewer listed - although it's supposd to be download.

Just my 2¢, I'd get the current version of Powerpoint viewer, 2010. It handles everything from PP 97 to current. http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=13

If that doesn't work check your Win Live email settings to allow viewing attachments, and or try this reg tweak,,,If unsure about doing a reg-edit,,,,,Don't do it.....

For .PPS files (Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow)
•Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
•Navigate to the following branch:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11\shell\Show

•Right-click Show and click Rename
•Type the word Open so that Show is replaced by Open command
•If you have PowerPoint Viewer 2007 installed, repeat the above steps in this key, as well:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.12\shell\Show

•After changing Show to Open, close Registry Editor window.

Final note, Save to desktop and open from there........

Called tech support at the vendor from whom I purchased the machine and he suggested downloading MS Office or Open Office - so I'll try that and see if it works. Thanks

Keep in mind that Downloading is only the movement of files from one place to another such as from a Web site to your computer. An Installation has to take place after getting those files so Windows knows about the program. Microsoft Office is generally not available for downloading and certainly not free but OpenOffice [www.openoffice.org] is free as is the similar LibreOffice [www.libreoffice.org], both have a presentation application that can open .pps or .ppsx file. PPSX is the newer version of PowerPoint 2007 and 2010 slideshow files and PPTX presentation files.

Berton, I have an OEM version of WinXP, and chipset drivers for the new machine - so I guess I'll try to downgrade to XP.
I don't do the number of photo-edits as I did, nor do I use the audio wave editors as much. So, XP will do just fine.

Since you have Win7 Pro on that computer you could use WinXP Mode, two files to download from Microsoft which will install a program similar to the older VirtualPC followed by a special version of WinXP Pro.
