As I said before I liked this system when I had it. But this system was unstable. But if you work with this system and get all the updates, tweaks this is a super system. If i run across another one i will get it. Alot of people did not like Windows ME but I am not one of them.

Lewis
ME was a "hurry up" Bill's OS, and in most cases is not worth a penny.
Win 98>Win 2000>Win XP...that's a serious upgrade...please, forget about ME, it's a total failure.

I've only worked on 2 PC's with ME on them...one at work (on a Laptop we were playing with) and on a friends PC. The Laptop wasn't that much of a problem but the PC was horror story. They ended up buy another OS.

I have heard though that the people who had ME, that ran nice, loved the OS and are hard pressed to upgrade to a newer OS.

You need to remember MS Support => http://support.micro....com/gp/lifewin about half way down.

Quote

Paid incident support is now available through 30-Jun-2006. Extended hotfix support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition ended on 30-Jun-2003. Extended hotfix support for Windows Millennium ended on 31-Dec-2003. Online self-help support will continue to be available until at least 30-Jun-2007. For additional information on the type and length of support provided, review the Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Support Extended Announcement Web site. Critical security updates will be provided on the Windows Update site through June 30, 2006. Microsoft will not publicly release non-critical security hotfixes for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition. However, customers may request a non-critical security hotfix through On-Demand Security Hotfix support, which is offered for these products through June 30, 2006. When a request is received, Microsoft will investigate the issue and try to provide an appropriate response to the customer.

With all the up dates for ME they can be made to run excellent . Wish I had never got rid of mine. But I did not know a thing about computers then. If I had it today it would be in tip top shape. And yes Broni it was a hurry up OS.by Bill. I mean Tonto is still using his with great results.

I heard this so don't yell at me. But ME wasn't hacked as much as any other M$ product. The reason was it hacked itself. Most I heard was that it was the worst OS put together.
But I understand Lewis and Tonto liking theirs. If they had all the problems that can come with this OS I am sure they would have dumped it in a upgrade!
Overall I think I agree with Broni, on this one! Hows that for sucking up? looool

I need some feedback. I have ME and absolutely love it, yes with all it's major problems and hair pulling and wipe and reloads... I still love it. I am building a second computer and am going to keep this ME on this computer but would like to try something different on the new one. Everyone says go back to 98 but that seems weird to me to go back to an old version instead of one of the newer ones. We will be using the newer one for graphics, game playing and movies (videos, pics etc.) and it will have the power and all to handle everything so my question is what system does everyone recommend and why. Any info or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Daps :computer_whacking:

I always found WinME to work best on the OEM/Brands computers where the hardware and drivers were better controlled by the builder.

I have WinXP Pro on a Dell P4 1.8GHz with 640MB along with Microsoft Virtual PC, HDD formatted as NTFS. I've installed MS-DOS 6.22/Windows for Workgroups and Win95B on it so far and next time I fire it up will put WinME on it.

As far as what you desire in a new computer OS, I'd go with WinXP HE unless wanting to connect to a Network Server in which case you'll be better off with WinXP Pro. Computers going to college will also be better off with Pro.

WinXP MCE/Media Center Edition is hard to get apart from the computer itself.

Differences

The Home and Professional editions of Windows XP are nearly identical; the only differences are additional features found in the Professional edition that most likely won't appeal to home users. The primary differences, aside from the price and the color of the packaging, are as follows:

Windows XP Home Edition

* Contains basic support for security among multiple users.
* Built-in support for peer-to-peer networking, but only for up to five computers.
* The backup utlity is not installed by default, but is included on the CD.

Windows XP Professional Edition

* Includes extended support for security between multiple users on the same machine.
* Better support for peer-to-peer networking, plus support for joining a "Windows NT domain."
* The backup utlity is installed by default.
* The Professional edition includes the following components not found in the Home edition:
o Administrative Tools (in the Start Menu and Control Panel)
o Automated System Recovery (ASR)
o Boot Configuration Manager
o DriverQuery
o Group Policy Refresh Utility
o Multi-lingual User Interface (MUI) add-on
o NTFS Encryption Utilitiy
o Offline Files and Folders
o OpenFiles
o Performance Log Manager
o Remote Desktop
o Scheduled Tasks Console
o Security Template Utility
o Taskkill
o Tasklist
o Telnet Administrator
* Provides support for multi-processor systems (2 or 4 CPUs), Dynamic Disks, Fax.

From reading all this talk about bad OS systems I guess
I am also in the minority. I have always used Windows ME and love everything
about it. I've got all the bugs out and am very happy with it.
I am like Tonto.....we have to be tough to keep bragging with all the bad things
that are said about Windows ME.
Call me crazy for loving it but I don't care what you say. :dancin_banana:
