the OS is MS 8.1 and here is a link to my computer specs  https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-c40-05-a4-6210-1-8-ghz-4-gb-500-gb-led-21-5/specs/

Yeah so the darn audio is gone yet everything says it is functioning, even the mixer shows the volumes going up and down on a video.

Also when I click on drive e it says it is corrupted and unreadable. I believe that is my seagate dashboard.

Thanks .

About this time is when I run hdd diagnostics. From a boot disk or usb stick.

Sea tools for Dos

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

It may offer to fix the drive, I let it do it. Maybe bootable and readable after the fix.

Then replace the drive asap.

He ran 3 tests , All came out fine . Looking at his link to his computer . Seagate is his DVD drive.

Looks like his internal drive is a Sata drive . Still no sound .

Audio usually comes with chipset drivers.

Download and install one from here: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-c-series-all-in-ones/lenovo-c40-05-all-in-one/f0b5/f0b5000gus/downloads

Scroll down to "Chipset" and select one for Windows 8.1
